SAFE Act Takes A Hit In The Senate

Bill Would Deliver Significant SAFE Act Reform

Posted 2 years ago

On Monday, June 8 the New York State Senate passed Senate Bill 5837 , sponsored by Senator James Seward on a 35-26 vote. This legislation would take the teeth out of the Ammunition Database and, according to the NRA-ILA, effectively scrap the entire Ammunition Background Check System.

The bill also provides for the inheritance of firearms to qualified, direct family members. And Pistol permit recertification will be the responsibility of local authorities, rather than the State Police.

S.5837 still has an uphill claim. The bill must still pass the Assembly and be signed by the Governor before becoming law, all in the waining days of this 2015 Legislative Session.

NYOutdoorTalk.com joins the NRA in urging you to contact your Assembly Member and respectfully him or her to support SAFE Act reform.
