Press Release

Posted 3 years ago

This winter the statewide NYS Winter Classic Tournament will offer anglers an unprecedented prize pool during this 2-month long tournament starting January 1st and running through February 28th! In addition to the general payout structure (pays out up to the Top 20 places across all 7 fish divisions by weight – 140 cash checks), there will be Weekly, Monthly, and Overall prizes (including another $1,000+ hammered stainless trout sculpture by Steve Nielsen Art), Lunker Pool, Angler Achievement Awards, a new Catch & Release Division for Pike and Trout (measured by length with its own prize pool paying up to the Top 20 in each), and this year Clam Corp. has come through with a $2500 Cash Grand Prize which will go to one of the 1st place finishers of the general tournament in a blind drawing at the awards ceremony. Additional prizes include a brand new 2016 Case Canoe (new concept electric powered canoe) with a full graphics wrap installed by Vital Signs (total value of $5,000) to be given away to the angler who catches the overall largest fish (by weight), and shanties/shelters to be given away at most weigh-in locations as local contests due to a very generous sponsorship by Frabill. The sponsor line-up for this year’s event is larger than ever with many new sponsors (Clam Corp., Brite-Strike, Hydro Glow, Case Canoes, Kahtoola, Soco Baits, Vexilar, and Vital Signs) and several headlining sponsors (Plano Synergy/Frabill, Clam Corp., Brite-Strike, and Case Canoes), in all totaling over $60,000 in cash and prizes to be given away.

This year the NYS Winter Classic Tournament will be buzzing with media including live Facebook feeds, weekly blogs, and breaking news stories by NYOutdoorTalk, TV & radio show appearances, multiple media releases, angler interviews and videos, and updates across the entire online tournament media platform. Since the event covers all waterways across the state and all legal angling methods, coverage will incorporate ice fishing, open water fishing, shore fishing, river and stream fishing, etc.

Registration opens September 1st with an Early Bird Promotion for the first 5+ anglers that sign up at each weigh-in location – we will be outfitting each station with 5+ items valued at $5-$75+ to be given away to the first 5+ anglers who sign up at each station! Promotional items will be drawn via secure random envelopes by the anglers when they sign up – these items will be on display at the shops starting August 17th. General registration is still only $25/angler (additional $10 for the optional Lunker Pool) and is available at most weigh-in locations and online (online entries are not eligible for Early Bird Promotional items). Catch & Release registration options will only be available online and at select weigh-in locations (see website map). Full rules and regulations for the general tournament, Catch & Release tournament, and guidelines for how many of the special awards will be given away and won can be found on the tournament website. Leaderboards will also continue to be updated as new prizes and awards are confirmed through the fall. Leaderboards during the event are updated multiples times each day as fish are weighed in.

Please help spread word of this event, as its success is based on angler entries. Any exposure via any media outlet would be greatly appreciated! Any TV or radio show that would like us to guest appear on, please contact Tim Thomas to arrange a date/time.
