New York State has one of the largest Bear populations in the eastern US. In fact, in 2014 the NYS DEC opened up more of New York to Bear hunting, proving that there are enough of them to expand their control through hunting. The greatest population resides in the Adirondack and Catskill regions, with pockets scattered in the Tug Hill region and the Southern Tier.
Vist the DEC website for the current hunting regulations, as well as their Black Bear Management program.
