A fisherman from Germantown, NY tied a state record with the giant smallmouth bass he caught during a fishing tournament. Patrick Hildenbrand hauled in his 8 lb. 4 oz. smallmouth bass on August 28 while fishing the St. Lawrence River. His catch now shares the state record for a smallmouth bass with one caught from Lake Erie in 1995.

"New York's Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River region is a premier destination for both resident and non-resident anglers seeking a memorable fishing experience," said DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos. "From trophy trout and salmon to tackle-busting smallmouth bass and muskellunge, the region provides a wide range of outstanding fishing opportunities."
