DEC Announces Changes To The Fall Turkey Season

Two Weeks And One Bird

Posted By VanOtisco, 4 years ago

Due to declining turkey populations, the New York State DEC has decided to limit fall turkey hunting to two weeks statewide. Further, they have adopted a statewide season bag limit of one bird of either sex.

The season dates are staggered in three zone across the state. Hunters may take birds Oct 1-14 in the Northern Zone, Oct 17-30 in the Southern Zone, and Nov 21-Dec 4 in Suffolk County (long Island).

The changes are part of a multi-year study of New York’s turkey population. For more information, see the full press release here.
